Homer Hickam first took off to the top of the charts with his autobiographical international best-seller ROCKET BOYS, chronicling the dream of a group of boys growing up in a coal mining town against the backdrop of the 1960s race to space.  Naming themselves The Big Creek Missile Agency (BCMA). Winning the 1960 National Science Fair with Gold and Silver medals in the area of propulsion, Hickam attended Virginia Tech before servicing as a decorated veteran in the Viet Nam War.  Thereafter, he worked for the U.S. Army Aviation and MIssle Command throughout the 1970s, and then as an Aerospace Engineer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at Marshall Space Flight Center in the 1980s, working on the Hubble Space Telescope, multiple Space Shuttle launches, training the first Japanese space astronauts, and finally before retiring in the late 80s and early 90s as a payload training manager for the International Space Station Program.  Putting his amazing life story down on paper in the best-selling memoir ROCKET BOYS, later adapted into a feature film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Cooper, and Laura Dern, later turned into a hit Broadway Musical as well.  Its sequels, THE COALWOOD WAY, SKY OF STONE, WE ARE NOT AFRAID, and COALWOOD also hit the Best-Seller list as well, and Hickam later branched out successfully into fiction with his JOSH THURLOW series, and swept the award circuit with the autobiographical CARRYING ALBERT HOME: THE SOMEWHAT TRUE STORY OF A MAN, HIS WIFE AND HER ALLIGATOR, an homage to his parents’ own love story, along with his HELIUM-3 series among other best-sellers.
